The Dolomites landscape photography
Located in northern Italy, the Dolomites are one of the world’s most photogenic mountain ranges, and one of my favourite locations for landscape photography. With stunning natural formations surrounded by alpine meadows, forests, flowing rivers and beautiful lakes, inspiration is everywhere you look. The images below were photographed in multiple regions within the Dolomites, including Val Gardena, Misurina, Cortina d’Amprezzo, Passo Giau and Passo Carezza.
An atmospheric crop of Sasso Piatto (part of the Langkofel group in Alpe di Siusi). Photographed shortly after a snow shower when the mountain peak breaks through the clouds.
The dramatic rock walls of Lastoni di Formin opposite Passo Giau. Photographed late afternoon when the west faces are beautifully lit.
The imposing jagged spires of Cadini di Misurina. Photographed in the mid-afternoon from one of the classic viewpoints.
A section from Cadini di Misurina showcasing texture and layers. Photographed in the early morning from Tre Cime di Lavaredo.
The idyllic Lago di Braies, photographed early in the morning to capture the mirror-like reflection of the Croda del Becco mountains.
One of the many dramatic views from Seceda. Fast-moving clouds contrast perfectly with the snow covered mountains.
Lago Antorno - a small picturesque lake offering exceptional opportunities to capture reflections of the Tre Cime , Cadini di Misurina and Sorapiss.
Lago Misurina panoramic taken at midday. There are some good opportunities to photograph Tre Cime, Lago Antorno and Monte Piana in early morning mist but I opted for other locations.
The spectacular Seceda ridgeline photographed in the late afternoon, with dramatic views of the Val di Funes or Alpe di Cisles on either side.
The atmospheric Seceda, photographed under snow and partial cloud. This shot was taken on the morning before the above image was captured. The difference is considerable but it emphasises how dynamic the landscape is.
