I’m Jonny France - a UK-based landscape photographer drawn to quiet moments, changing light, and the kind of places that make you slow down and look a little closer.

Photography, for me, has never been about chasing as many locations as possible. It’s about spending time, understanding a place, and returning with something that feels considered rather than rushed.

Travel has always been a big part of that. Even back in art school, it shaped how I saw the world - my final degree show was inspired by Italy, after eight weeks exploring the country with money I’d been given for my 21st birthday. At the time, I thought I’d become an artist. Instead, I spent the next two decades working as a designer for global brands in the sport and entertainment sectors.

Looking back, that time mattered more than I realised. It shaped how I think about composition, detail, and restraint - all things that now carry through into my photography.

I’ve always had a need to create, and eventually photography became the outlet that brought everything together. It gave me a reason to explore, but also a reason to slow down. That balance is what keeps me coming back.

My first camera was a Fuji Finepix S5000, bought with a graduate loan (probably not what it was meant for…) before a trip to Kruger National Park. I still remember the moment it clicked - a leopard, backlit in soft evening light, pausing after a kill. That was the frame that pulled me in.

These days I shoot with a Nikon D850 - not the latest camera, but one I trust completely. It’s been with me through all kinds of conditions, and that reliability matters more than anything else.

More than anything, I hope my work encourages a more considered way of seeing - whether that’s travelling somewhere new, or simply paying closer attention to what’s already around you.
